Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a major trial at Southwark Crown Court.

The comedian and former television presenter, 51, was convicted on Thursday (November 5) after a jury considered seven charges relating to six women and allegations dating between 1999 and 2009.

Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

He was, however, cleared of two other rape charges and one charge of attempted indecent assault.

The verdicts follow a trial lasting almost four weeks, during which the court heard evidence from the women who had accused Brand of sexual offences.

Brand denied all the charges and maintained that he had never engaged in sexual activity without consent.

Following the verdict, Mr Justice Bennathan told Brand that the consequences of his convictions would inevitably be a significant custodial sentence.

The judge subsequently ordered that he be remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.

Brand was led away from the courtroom by prison officers following the decision.

When will Russell Brand be sentenced?

Brand is due to return to court on Monday (November 9), when he will be sentenced for the offences.

The judge has already indicated that a substantial prison sentence is expected, although the exact length will not be known until the sentencing hearing.

The case represents a major development in the allegations surrounding Brand, which first attracted widespread public attention in 2023 following investigations by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times.

For now, attention turns to Monday’s sentencing hearing and the next chapter in the high-profile case.
