EastEnders fans have been left speculating after Janine Butcher made a surprise return to the spotlight in the BBC soap’s latest winter trailer.

Charlie Brooks is back as the iconic Walford troublemaker, and her comeback has already sparked questions about what could be waiting for Janine when she returns to Albert Square.

And with Linda Carter’s past continuing to cast a shadow over her life, could Janine’s return reopen some painful old wounds?

Could Mick Carter be at the centre of Janine’s return?

One of the biggest questions surrounding Janine’s comeback is whether it could have anything to do with Mick Carter.

Janine’s history with Mick and Linda was explosive, with her actions helping to drive a wedge between the pair before Mick disappeared at sea on Christmas Day 2022.

Linda was left devastated by his disappearance, and Mick’s ultimate fate has remained a huge talking point among viewers.

Could Janine’s return bring fresh developments in the long-running mystery?

While there is no confirmed indication that Mick will return, the possibility of the Carters’ past being revisited is enough to get fans talking.

Janine and Linda could have unfinished business

If Janine and Linda come face to face again, viewers can expect plenty of tension.

The pair have a long and bitter history, with Janine framing Linda for drink-driving and later marrying Mick.

Their rivalry made for some of the soap’s most dramatic moments, and a reunion could bring old grudges bubbling back to the surface.

Would Linda finally get the chance to confront Janine over everything that happened?

Or could Janine have another agenda entirely?

Is Janine’s comeback permanent?

Another question is how long Charlie Brooks will be back in Walford.

Janine has always been a character capable of turning a seemingly quiet visit into a full-blown scandal, so even a short appearance could have major consequences for those around her.

For now, the details of her storyline remain under wraps, leaving viewers to wonder what has brought her back and who could be caught in the crossfire.

One thing is certain: Janine Butcher rarely returns without a reason.

And if her comeback does reopen the wounds of the past, Linda Carter could be in for another difficult chapter.

EastEnders fans, what do you think? Is Janine’s return connected to Mick Carter, or is she back in Walford for an entirely different reason?
