Waterloo Road fans have a major comeback to look forward to when the BBC drama returns for its next series.

Chelsee Healey is returning to the school as fan-favourite Janeece Bryant — but this time, she won’t be coming back alone.

Janeece is set to return as a regular character in Series 18, with Lauren Hylton joining the cast as her on-screen daughter, Cheryl Bryant.

The return marks another chapter for Janeece, who originally appeared in Waterloo Road during the show’s earlier years before making a brief appearance during the show’s revival.

Healey previously described her return as feeling like “coming home”, while teasing that Janeece is still as fierce and funny as ever — only now she’s a mum. (Entertainment Daily)

Who else is returning?

Series 18 is expected to bring back a number of familiar faces, including Lindsey Coulson as Stella Drake, Adam Thomas as Donte Charles, Saira Choudhry as Nisha Chandra and Jason Merrells as Jack Rimmer.

Denise Welch is also returning as Steph Haydock, with reports suggesting she will have a bigger role this time around. (Entertainment Daily)

The new series will also introduce a number of new pupils and teachers, giving Waterloo Road another major shake-up.

And there’s plenty of unfinished business following the dramatic ending of Series 17.

Darius Donovan was arrested after his crimes finally caught up with him, while Stella regained control of the school. Nisha was also left facing the future after discovering she was pregnant. (Entertainment Daily)

Series 18 does not yet have an officially confirmed BBC transmission date, but it is expected to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer during 2026.

And with Series 19 already commissioned, Waterloo Road isn’t going anywhere just yet.
