This is a feud nobody had on their 2026 bingo card!
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has become embroiled in a bizarre social media clash with former Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson, after the actor gave his very honest opinion on the legendary Manchester band.
Lawson, who played Jim McDonald on Coronation Street, was responding to a question on X asking whether Oasis were overhyped or genuinely one of the greatest bands of all time.
His answer was brutally simple.
“They are distinctly average.”
It didn’t take long for Liam Gallagher to notice the comment.
And the Oasis singer wasn’t exactly impressed.
Liam Gallagher hits back
Liam responded to Lawson’s comment by taking aim at his acting career, writing:
“Like your fing acting skills.”*
The exchange then escalated, with Liam continuing to respond to people discussing the former Corrie star.
When one person questioned what Lawson had acted in, Liam replied:
“Actor in his fing dreams.”*
He later appeared to suggest that Lawson had been asking for the backlash, describing him in another response as a “silly old c*”.** (AOL.com)
Lawson, however, didn’t appear particularly interested in backing down.
Instead, he shared a clip of Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and described Talking Heads as his favourite band of the 1980s and 1990s.
Who is Charlie Lawson?
Soap fans will know Lawson best as Jim McDonald, the father of Steve and Andy McDonald and husband of Liz McDonald.
He played the character on and off from 1989 until 2018, becoming one of the show’s most recognisable stars. (AOL.com)
So, in one corner you’ve got Liam Gallagher defending Oasis…
And in the other, you’ve got Jim McDonald declaring that the band are “distinctly average”.
It’s certainly a crossover nobody expected to see!

The bizarre exchange quickly attracted attention online, with fans joking about the unlikely combination of Oasis and Weatherfield.
